Can anyone provide information on the death of 2nd Lt Vladimir Brenzo of the148th believed to have occured in mid April of 1945 in the drive toward Baguio? Especially would like to know if he died in the field hospital or later in October as his gravestone in Manila Military Cemetery states.

Adding to Bill Leahy's comment: There is a book titled MUNDA TRAIL, THE NEW GEORGIA CAMPAIGN by Eric Hammel that details the events of the combat area quite well. My Uncle was also Cpl. Walter Leahy.

mr wulf,

my uncle cpl. walter leahy is the soldier mentioned in your video. he was awarded the bronze star posthumously for his actions in new georgia. i would very much like to speak with mr herman to learn anything i could about my late uncle. i have an extensive scrapbook, including letters from his superior officer, of his brief wartime experiences. mr herman is the only person who might have my uncle. thank you.

My father Claude A. Knowles is from Toledo, Ohio and served with the 37th Division , 148th Infantry. He also was at New Georgia and Bougainville. I still have the photos taken at these areas during the time period of 1942 thru 1943. Yes my father fought in the Pacfic Theater during the war. He never talk about the war except when I went to Vietnam. He taught me what to look for things in jungle warfare which are not taught in basic training. I am alive today because of his knowledge on what to do in the jungle. I just wanted to say I salute Herman Holden and the men of 37th Division. My ONLY regret I did not get as many combat medals as my father received. My father told me He is very proud of me returning home safe from Vietnam. Thank You Don Knowles
