Iron Coffin

April 7, 2009

Bob French served his country during World War 2 by driving Sherman 75mm tank through Germany. He was a member of the 5th armored division, and entered his first battle soon after crossing the Rhine river.

Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, French joined the tank corps due to his oldest brothers suggestion ” it is better to drive then walk”.

French stayed home training troops, and figured he was staying stateside for the remainder of the war. He got a furlough, and decided to marry marry his sweetheart. Unfortantly for them, he would soon receive new orders. He was headed for Europe, and headed there with an “Iron Coffin”.
